Family Exhibition first of its kind

A MAJOR history exhibition, providing over one billion names available for research came to the North West for three days last month on a whistle stop tour of the UK.

Featuring displays, public computer terminals and state of the art software via satellite link up to the world's latest genealogical database at Salt Lake City, Utah-the free exhibition proved popular with people intrested in delving in to their f
amily tree.
Called, family Seach on the Road, the exhbition ran at the Church of the Latter day Saints on the Racecourse Road.
Eric Noble, President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Northern Ireland said: "This was the family history event of the year and we were very excited to act as hosts for Family Search on the Road which is currently touring the UK and Ireland."
The exhibition presented a unique opportunity to use the worlds largest family database in the world and experienced researchers with local knowledge were on hand to help anyone making investifgations into their family tree.
Church representative in Londonderry, Joe McGeady said: "Last year was the 170th anniversary of the arrival of the first Mormons in the British Isles.
"During those 170 years countless members of the public have helped us have helped us in our quest to identify our ancestors. We now want to repay their their kindness by helping them use our database we have built."
