THE outgoing Head Boy of Foyle and Londonderry College is off to Cambridge, having scored a magnificent four A Grades in his A-Levels.
Paul Smith from the Waterside embarked on his seven years at Foyle back in 2001 and so began a glittering educational career at the prestigious school.
During his time at school Paul also spent a period of work experience at the Londonderry Sentinel
which expanded into him spending many hours during his holidays producing top class articles for this newspaper, as well as becoming an award winning photographer.
Paul now plans to enter the media after gaining his degree in English from Robinson College, Cambridge.
Speaking to the Sentinel Paul recalled his time at Foyle and Londonderry, and said: "It's been great. I have some brilliant memories when I look back and it didn't feel like seven years.
"Highlights for me were getting up to gold standard in the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme and getting involved with music, in particular things like the jazz band."
The former Lisnagelvin Primary school pupil, gained his four straight A's in A Level English, History, French and Music, preceded these results with 10 A star grades at GCSE level.
Describing his time at the Sentinel as "completely valuable" Paul said it was his first experience in a real working environment.
"It honed my skills as a journalist and a photographer and even helped in some ways with homework," he said.
Paul took the opportunity to thank all his teachers at Foyle who he said were a fantastic help during his time there.
"I also want to take the chance to say that A Levels are not getting any easier!" Paul said.
