ALTNAGELVIN'S new pharmacy and laboratory buildings have gone £3million over budget.
Initially set to cost £15million, the final cost of the building was £18million.
The final figure was revealed in a report by the Northern Ireland Audit Office.
The extra cost was blamed on design changes, negotiation with the preferred bidder and procurement delays
But a spokeswoman for the the Western Health and Social Care Trust defended the extra cost.
"The Trust is developing its response which will be given to a future meeting of the Public Accounts Committee.

"The Trust is delighted with the outcome of the £18m project which, when approved, was delivered ahead of time, within budget, to a very high standard and to a high level of satisfaction.

"The Western Trust's Laboratory and Pharmacy Centre at Altnagelvin Hospital is acknowledged to be one of the finest such facilities in Europe."
The development is part of an overall £250million redevelopment of the Londonderry hospital due to be completed by 2015.
