A FORMER trainee police officer from Limavady appeared in court today (Thursday) charged with falsifying records and stealing £11000.
Niall McGregor, who is 22, was working at the vehicle licensing office in Foyle Street, Londonderry at the time of the alleged offences, between January and June 2006.
He faces 21 charges of theft and falsifying vehicle tax records and gave his address as C/O PSNI Garnerville. The court was told his PSNI contract had subsequently been terminated.
Londonderry Magistrate's Court heard McGregor is accused of stealing eight sums of money from the DVLNI, totalling almost £11000. He also faces 13 charges of dishonestly altering vehicle tax documents.
Johnny Sandhu, defending, said the charges related to breaches of trust and a significant amount of money which could involve serious consequences.
McGregor was released on his own bail of £500 to appear again, this time at Londonderry Crown Court, on June 5.
