LIMAVADY Deputy Mayor Alderman George Robinson has congratulated the new and former Department of Enterprise Trade and Investment (DETI) Ministers for the ongoing efforts to attract new investment to Northern Ireland.
"During Assembly question time I had the opportunity to ask the new Minister for Enterprise Trade and Investment, Mrs Foster, about the success that her department has had with regard to attracting inward investment.
"Her answer shows the great eff
orts that have, and are, being made in that area. The Minister pointed to the development of markets for Northern Ireland's products in India and China.
"Much investment has come from India; over 3,000 new jobs have been created from eight projects, and planned investment comes to over £85 million. Those efforts have, therefore, been extremely worthwhile"
"This pro-active approach has been the reality for some time, and I concur entirely when Minister Foster paid proper tribute to the former DETI Minister Mr Nigel Dodds.
"I pay tribute to the former Minister of Enterprise, Trade and Investment, who is now the Minister of Finance and Personnel, in particular for his work in connection with the US/NI investment conference and the great hopes that have arisen from it, and, as the Member rightly points out, his outreach to emerging markets. The former Minister carried out tremendous work in those areas.
"It is plain to see that the efforts are ongoing and have begun to pay dividends for Northern Ireland. I have told the Minister for the urgent need of investment in the Limavady area and know she is well aware of the urgency of the situation locally.
"I have been assured that Limavady will be promoted strongly to ensure that no stone is left unturned to attract the much needed investment and employment that we need.
"For those who have been sceptical as to devolution I ask this; would a direct rule Minister have been so pro-active?
"I say no and that devolution has produced tangible results."
