THE transfer of Derry City's Paddy McCourt has taken a new twist with Scottish giants Celtic making an 11th hour bid for the mercurial winger.
McCourt, widely regarded as the most gifted player in Ireland, was earlier this week due to sign for Premier league new boys West Bromwich Albion after Derry City accepted the Baggies' initial bid, which included the Premier League side travelling to Brandywell for a friendly game next February - netting around £50,000 for the Eircom League side.
But that move was threatened after it was revealed by the Sentinel, that championship side Norwich City wanted the player.
Now both clubs now look likely to miss out as McCourt is understood to favour a move to Celtic.
Sources have told the Sentinel MCourt is now at Parkhead, where he is believed to be undergoing a medical today.
McCourt first rose to prominence with Rochdale, before returning to Ireland to play for Shamrock Rovers, and then his home town club of Derry City.
