Carrickfergus Cricket Club’s 1st XI returned to league action at the weekend after a five-week break due to poor weather and their involvement in various cup competitions. Even with a depleted side, which lacked five regulars due to injury and holidays, they picked up two good wins.

On Saturday, Carrick travelled to Laurelvale for the first time since they clinched the Section 1 league title there 10 years ago.

The home captain won the toss and had no hesitation in putting Carrick in to bat on a rain-affected wicket, and during the first 20 overs Carrick’s batsmen had to work hard for their runs on a drying wicket. They struggled along to 58 for three when Mikey Taiaroa (right) who had been there since the second over was joined by Louis Delport.
